“A cost-effective and scalable IT server that provides efficient mobility and resource-sharing support in the access network”
WiMAX Access Controller is a key element of the WiMAX Radio Access Network. It is responsible for subscriber access control and authentication. Positioned at the aggregation level, WiMAX Access Controller provides efficient mobility and
resource-sharing support in the access network. It:
Authenticates, authorizes, and accounts for users according to variable grades of service for different Service Level Agreements (SLAs) with the appropriate QoS for each respective customer class.
Manages inter-cell handover, and roaming between network areas.
Controls subscribers’ access to the Radio Access Network resources including cases of external network resources.
Provides accounting information on radio resources to network management.
Allocates IP-addresses.
This cost-effective and scalable IT server provides a throughput of 500 Mb/s of subscriber traffic per server rack, and can address up to 200 base stations and 60,000 subscribers. The servers are equipped with redundant hot-swappable power supplies and hard disks for enhanced reliability.
A variety of other equipment (e.g. home agents for IP mobility, AAA servers, DHCP/DNS servers and session border controllers for VoIP and video support in IMS environments) may be housed in the same cabinet with the controller, thus enabling compact, comprehensive, readyto- deploy end-to-end WiMAX networks.
