C-DOT Alcatel Research Center Wins National Telecom Award!

It was a proud moment for C-DOT Alcatel Research Center on Thursday 17th May 2007, evening at the India Habitat Center in Delhi. The joint venture which was set up in India a little less than two years ago already bagged the award for Excellence in R&D at the first ever National Telecom Awards 2007. The award was conceptualized by TEMA (Telecom Equipment Manufacturers Association), the national apex body recognized by the Government of India to represent telecom Technology Providers and stakeholders of the Telecom Fraternity in India.

Patrick Veron, CEO, C-DOT Alcatel Research Center received the award from Dr. Shakeel Ahmed, Minister of State for Communications & IT. Dr. Ahmed also presented the other three awards to the industry players. Amongst the other winners were NOKIA - for Excellence in Exports, Bharti - forExcellence in Manufacturing and Tejas Networks - for Excellence in Innovation. "This is a proud moment for all of us. We have worked very hard to develop WiMAX 802.16e system and CPE reference designs, that will help meet the broadband needs in India and elsewhere in the World. I wish to dedicate this award to everyone at C-DOT Alcatel Research Center, who have made this happen through their hard work and dedication over the past year and half," said Patrick.

Country’s first Mobile WiMAX field Trial

The C-Dot Alcatel-Lucent Research Centre successfully completed India’s first live WiMAX Rev-E field trial using Aircel’s licensed spectrum, confirming this technology is ready for commercial deployment. The trial was completed in February 2007 and was conducted using the 2.5GHz band and successfully demonstrated applications in moving conditions such as video streaming, high-speed file downloads, Voice over IP (VoIP) and Web browsing.
